North Dakota's Oil Production Down In January

Posted: Updated:

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota's oil production dropped more than 4 percent in January, partly due to a winter storm and subzero temperatures.

The Department of Mineral Resources says preliminary figures show the state produced an average of 738,022 barrels per day in January. This is down from the record high of 770,111 barrels per day produced in December.

Director of the Department of Mineral Resources, Lynn Helms, tells The Forum that the drop is "significant." He says he anticipates production numbers to continue to go up and down through May because of changing weather. He says starting in June, North Dakota should start to see consistent increases in production numbers.
