Western ND Sheriff Resigning For Job In Oil Patch

Posted: Updated:

MANNING, N.D. (AP) - A western North Dakota sheriff says he's had enough of sitting behind a desk.

Dunn County Sheriff Don Rockvoy says he's resigning to work as a truck driver in the oil patch. He has been sheriff since July 2009.

Rockvoy tells the Dickinson Press that he would rather be on the road and adds he doesn't like the way that politics have dominated the job in the last couple of years.

Rockvoy says an increase in crime and traffic accidents in the county since he took over has made it difficult to train and maintain staff.

Dunn County Commissioner Daryl Dukart says Rockvoy did a good job as sheriff and he's sorry to see him leave.
