Rare Banknotes Up For Sale At ND Estate Auction

Posted: Updated:

DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) - A selection of U.S. currency nearly 100 years old is going up for auction in Dickinson today.

The Dickinson Press reports that both paper and coin banknotes will be sold. The big-ticket items up for auction include currency notes from the First National Banks of Dickinson, New England and Marmarth from the early 1900s.

Dickinson collector Leon Lorz says the notes are appealing because the names of the towns are listed on the bills.

Lorz says the Marmarth note could net between $3,000 and $5,000.

Also up for auction will be a variety of silver and gold coins, silver certificates and other collectable monies.

The auction is at the Holiday Inn Express in Dickinson.
