Healthier Me: Diabetes Costs

In Friday's Healthier Me, diabetes treatments -- and the missed work resulting from a diagnosis -- cost the United States more than 200 billion dollars last year.

 

A new study has found diabetes-related costs are up more than 40% since 2007.

 

That includes costs for hospital stays, medication, emergency care, lost productivity, and unemployment.

Experts say the costs per patient have not gone up; instead, the number of patients diagnosed with the disease has grown from 17 million to 22 million.
