Hunting and Fishing Big Business for ND

Posted: Updated:

Hunting and fishing in North Dakota is a billion dollar business.

A report compiled by North Dakota State University and released by the state Game and Fish Department concludes that anglers and hunters contributed $1.4 billion to the state's economy during the 2011-12 hunting and fishing seasons.

The study found that hunters and anglers spent $643 million on equipment, travel, lodging, food and other items.

Those expenditures generated nearly $727 million in secondary economic benefits.

Game and Fish Director Terry Steinwand says the report shows that outdoor recreation in North Dakota is important not only for quality of life but also for the economy.
