Sunset World Resorts & Vacation Experiences registered one of the best years in its tourism operation in the Mexican Caribbean in 2012 and is optimistic that this will be a year of consolidation through strategies such as technological renovation, sustainable management of resources and strategic alliances in Mexico and abroad.
The tourism group, which has been operating in Cancún and the Riviera Maya for 25 years, managed to increase its marketing operations by 30% in the Philippines, USA, Mexico, Canada and South America, enabling it to offer accommodation to more than 600 thousand tourists last year in its six hotel properties.
“2012 was a historic year for our company’s profitability”, said Orlando Arroyo Marroquín, President of the Sunset World Resorts & Vacation Experiences Board of Directors, and he broke the news that this year operations will be strengthened abroad, in countries such as Brazil, where marketing offices were opened last year, as well as establishing a strong presence in Venezuela and Colombia, by encouraging strategic alliances.
“We will continue working to expand our brand and increase our presence in the international market, and to do so we will concentrate our efforts this year in Central and South America, while maintaining our growth rate in the USA, Canada and the Philippines”, clarified Arroyo Marroquín, who added that thanks to their efforts the number of visitors to the Mexican Caribbean will continue to increase.
Thus, Yucatan Holidays and the other marketing companies in the Sunset World group directed by its CEO Erika Garcia, managed to generate tourism bookings by 12,430 couples for the group’s hotels, representing an increase of 20 per cent compared to 2011, and vacation package sales grew by 30 per cent thanks to the creation of innovative and creative campaigns, always thinking “outside the box”, focusing on new markets and creating strategic alliances with various social assistance organizations.
It should be noted that with the sale of 5,619 vacation packages by Yucatan Holidays, almost 2 million pesos were donated to a children’s aid organization, and last year a social campaign was started with the aim of receiving monetary donations from tourists through collection boxes installed in the group’s hotels.
Arroyo Marroquín added that this year their social assistance programs will be strengthened. They have been working with these international programs for some years and will continue to support them by working with the leaders and celebrities that represent them.
It should be noted that with the sale of 5,619 vacation packages by Yucatan Holidays, almost 2 million pesos were donated to the foundation of a great internationally football player, Rafael Marquez, and last year the “Viajeros con Corazón” campaign was started with the aim of receiving monetary donations from tourists through collection boxes installed in the group’s hotels.
Arroyo Marroquín added that this year their social assistance programs with other foundations will be strengthened. They have been working with these programs for some years and will continue to support the “Viajeros con Corazón” program as well as similar programs like the one created in the memory of the late Brazilian Formula One world champion Ayrton Senna and the Colombian singer Juanes Foundation, among others.
The tourism group, made up of more than 25 companies and with a work force of more than 3 thousand, pointed out that this year it will also concentrate its efforts on reducing the consumption of drinking water and electrical energy in its properties, and with this in mind it has invested more than one million pesos in replacing the lighting system in their six hotels with light bulbs using LED technology.
In order to encourage electrical energy savings, they will continue to implement technological renovation by generating electricity with wind and solar energy systems, acquiring cogenerating energy equipment, installing LED energy saving light bulbs and electronic single lever faucets with presence sensors to reduce water waste in bathrooms.
In order to make the administration of energy sources more efficient and contribute towards reducing contamination in the environment and the optimization of economic and natural resources, they will implement water saving systems in toilets, residual water treatment plants with aerobic systems, the collection of rain water, the use of a reverse osmosis plants to generate high quality water for human consumption and the placement of chlorine salinizers in swimming pools to avoid the use of chemical products.
Sunset World Resorts & Vacation Experiences will continue to promote Ethos, its farm in the Mayan jungle, which in 2012 produced more than 105 tons of farm products, including fruit and vegetables, as well as more than 100 thousand exotic flowers, such as birds of paradise, torch flowers and heliconias from the Valerian species, iris and Hawaiian flowers, and they are confident they can double their flower production this year.
For 2013 the challenge for the Ethos farm will be to supply almost all the fruit, vegetable and flowers for the Hacienda Tres Rios ecotourism complex and in 2014 achieve a production that will cover the supply needs of the group’s six hotels.
