In Tuesday's Healthier Me, there appear to be significant benefits to taking DHA supplements during pregnancy.
Researchers compared outcomes of 300 expectant mothers: half took DHA supplements (a type of omega-3 fatty acid) during the last half of their pregnancies; the other half did not.
Babies whose mothers took the supplements were consistently close to 1/2 lb. heavier and also likely to be born prematurely than those whose mothers took none.
No negative side effects were found.
