Essentia Employee Honored with Patriot Award

Posted: Updated:

An operating room nurse manager at Essentia Health was honored with a patriot award Tuesday. Nicole Hauck received the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Patriot Award.  It is given when an employee serving in the National Guard or Reserve nominates a supervisor.

Hauck's co-workers say she supports their military commitment through flexible schedules, and leaves of absence if needed. On Tuesday, Donnie Graening explained how much it helps him.

"The flexibility with my employer allows me to go on orders and serve my country on basically a moments notice, Graening says. "That's important not only to fulfill the Navy's goal and mission but it's also important to me that I be productive and active in the military and my job here allows me to do that."

Hauck responded by talking about how important being flexible in scheduling employees that have military obligations is.

"Extremely important, it's also important of the operating room staff to be supportive of our military members. You know they do a great service for our country and it's just our way of supporting them and everything they do."

Hauck says she's honored, but it's also just part of the job. "I'm so honored by it, it means the world to me. It's going to hang in my office. You know I really feel like it is something that all of the operating room staff is recognized for, we do it together as a team but I'm very proud of both Todd and Donnie as members of our team and being able to support them."
