Dennis Rodman is Coming to Fargo

Posted: Updated:

North Korea is a closed communist state but it opened it's doors for a celebrity. Dennis Rodman just got back to the states and has been singing praise for the dictator of North Korea Kim Jung Un since. The controversial statements come as Rodman is scheduled to host an event in Fargo this weekend. Valley News Live talked to the local business owner to find out how they snagged Rodman for their upcoming event.

He just got back from North Korea, rubbing shoulders with a man who has threatened the US with war, been accused of starving his own people and imprisoning some 200 thousand in forced labor camps. But Dennis Rodman saw a different side of North Korean dictator Kim Jung Un.

"I tell ya one thing he was so honest and guess what, his grandfather, and father were great leaders." Dennis Rodman says in an interview upon arriving back.

Rodman is back home now and making his rounds on national news. But he'll have to take a break from all of that as he's made another appointment, in Fargo. "As far as bringing someone of this caliber or notoriety to Fargo it's a bit different." Says the owner of JT Cigarro in Fargo, Barrett Prody. On Friday and Saturday night they'll be hosting a liquid ice promo, it's basically a beauty contest that Rodman will help host. You might be asking yourself. Why the worm?

"Well he's certainly eccentric, he's a character, he's a unique individual, and he draws a lot of fanfare for some the things he's done over the years." Says Prody.

While all that is likely the case, Rodman now is looked at as something different. One of the only Americans to ever get a first account report of the daily life of one of the most concerning dictators in all of the world. Some find that pretty alarming considering today, Rodman is saying what a great person the dictator is.

Rodman says, "he's such a proud man. He's proud and his country likes him. Not likes him, loves him. The guy is awesome."

Rodman also came home with a message, he says Kim Jung Un doesn't want war. In fact Un, just wants President Obama to call him. So with a bit of luck maybe Rodman can wear the hat of ambassador. The US today has a relationship with North Korea that is beyond dismal so we should be willing to take what ever form of dialogue we can get.

Rodman will be at JT Ciggaro Friday and Saturday nights hosting their Liquid Ice Girl competition. To get a closer look at the 5 time NBA champ, show up early, he'll likely get there about 9:00 PM.
