ORIGINAL STORY

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning in the Red River Valley.  It is forecast that the Moorhead area may get 5 - 9 inches of snow beginning Sunday evening through early Tuesday morning.

The City is asking the public to remove vehicles from snow emergency routes starting at midnight Sunday/Monday morning and to refrain from parking on these routes through Tuesday morning.  The City of Moorhead Operations Department will be working to keep emergency routes and business corridors clear during the snow event.

As the snow subsides, residential snow removal will commence:

  • Crews will make the "first pass" through all residential neighborhoods and business districts within 12 hours of the snow tapering off.
  • Residential streets will be widened in the following 24 hours (hours 13 – 36 following the snow event).
  • A contractor has been hired to conduct snow removal in cul de sacs.

Monday Garbage Routes:  There will be no trash and recycling collection on Monday's routes. Please do not put garbage containers out for collection.  Additional information on when trash pick up will resume will be released as the extent of the snow event is known.  After snow subsides, residents may bring their recyclables to the drop off centers if they do not wish to wait for the next collection date.

Blue Snow Removal District:  This heavy snowfall may require the City to issue a Snow Removal Declaration in the Blue Snow Removal District at a future date.  There is no declaration in effect at this time.  To check the status of a Snow District Declaration, sign up for notifications, or get further information, go to www.cityofmoorhead.com/snowdistrict.

Questions?  Residents with questions may contact the Operations Department during business hours Monday through Friday between 8 am and 4:30 pm.
