Medal Of Honor Recipient Credits 'Battle Buddies'

Posted: Updated:

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) - Recent Medal of Honor recipient and North Dakota resident Clinton Romesha says his award was a team effort and could not have been accomplished without his "battle buddies."

The former U.S. Army staff sergeant spoke Saturday night to University of North Dakota ROTC cadets during the group's annual military ball.

Last month, Romesha was awarded the nation's highest military decoration for valor from President Obama for his actions during a 13-hour firefight in Afghanistan.

Romesha told cadets the magnitude of the honor is still sinking in and it's an honor to share it with people.

One cadet, Nathan Lehrke, says Romesha set a "great example of bravery."

Romesha left the Army in 2011 after nearly 12 years of service. He lives in Minot with his wife and three children.
