FM Hero Needs Your Help

Posted: Updated:

Where do heroes turn for help when they need some help? The Fargo Moorhead Ambulance crew is reaching out, hoping that you will be respond for a co-worker, who is desperately in need.

Paramedic Cody Kappenman suffers from a liver disease that's put his life in jeopardy.

When you hear the siren sound, someone somewhere needs help. They're people we look up to; men and women of ambulance crews give us the medical attention, care and even emotional support in emergencies.

Kathy Longsky with FM Ambulance says, "We're used to trying to help people by taking them to the hospital.

But sometimes the people who save people's live, need some saving themselves.

Brendan Krupich with FM Ambulance says, "Towards the last month or so, it's been rough."

"So many bouts with close to death. So many times we thought we were going to lose him," says Don Martin with FM Ambulance.

Parademic Cody Kappenman now needs that help. Years ago, he was diagnosed with a liver disease called Congenital Hepatic Fibrosis that causes internal bleeding, infection and excruciating pain.

"He always has a smile on his face, but you can tell," says Longsky.

After a successful liver transplant in January, complications followed, putting Cody in, and out, and now in the hospital again, racking up medical bill and after bill.

Krupich says, "Though he doesn't let any of us know about the issues, we know. We know the stress."

So instead of using their normal way of medicine, they're holding a benefit with spaghetti feed, raffle and silent auction. Because heroes need help, too.

Martin says, "Just praying that everything goes well, and he comes back to us, and is a stronger person and healthier."

"I don't know a guy that deserves it more, and he would be the first one to help anyone else," says Longsky.

Cody's benefit will be held on Sunday if you'd like to attend. The ambulance staff is also selling  wristbands that say "Team Cody" on them. If you want one, you can stop by the benefit or stop by the FM Ambulance station.
