Bail Set for Dilworth Man Charged with Murder

Posted: Updated:

Bail has been set for a Dilworth, Minnesota man facing two second-degree murder charges in connection with the death of a 22-month-old girl.  Raul Perez is in the Tri-County Corrections facility in Crookston, Minnesota and at his first court appearance Friday, bail was set at $1 million dollars.

Raul Perez is accused in the August 31 death of his girlfriend's daughter, Ariel Reyes. Ada, Minnesota police and Clay County Deputies arrested Perez Thursday, February 28.

Just before noon on August 29, medics responded to a 911 call from the home Perez, his girlfriend and her daughter Ariel Reyes were staying. When paramedics got there, Perez was doing mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on the toddler. Reyes was air-lifted to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo and on August 31 was declared brain dead and removed from life support.

Perez lived with Reyes and her mother in the months leading up to Reyes' death. At the time the toddler sustained her injuries, Perez was caring for her while her mother was grocery shopping.

Investigators determined that the child died from head and neck trauma. The manner of death was ruled as a homicide. Raul Perez is in the Tri-County Corrections Facility in Crookston, Minnesota and is expected to appear in court on Friday.
