Need for Auto Mechanics Drives Skills Competition

Posted: Updated:

You can never have enough good auto technicians, that's what Dennis Miller, an automotive instructor at M-State Moorhead, says.

Starting tomorrow Miller, along with his colleagues and students will host seven area high schools and put them through a twelve station course, testing their skills on all aspects of vehicles.

Miller says, "this is a high-school only event, and excellent practice for the upcoming SkillsUSA or Ford/AAA competitions," and also an excellent way for these students to strengthen their skills or prepare for a career in the automotive field.

The competition will last the majority of the day with M-State students judging the competitors. Students will have 14 minutes at each station to compete tasks ranging anywhere from engine repair, to vehicle electronics, even transmissions.

Students will also be scored on a 35 question written exam. Winners of the competition will receive tools and prizes to help them jump start their career and education.
