Man Accused of Murdering Wife Appears in Court

Posted: Updated:

A Fargo man charged with the shooting death of his wife remains in the Cass County Jail on $1 million bond.

Ronald Rogers, 46, originally reported the death as a suicide to police. He was charged after police noticed inconsistencies with what he was telling police and what further crime scene investigation and autopsy results were showing.

Rogers later admitted to shooting his wife, Elizabeth. He also admitted to positioning a handgun near her hand to make the scene look like a suicide.

He was formally charged in court Monday morning with murder and willfully disturbing a dead body. The murder charge holds a maximum penalty of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Rogers told the judge that he and his wife moved to Fargo from northern Idaho last July.

No plea was entered for Rogers in Monday's court appearance. A public defender will represent Rogers going forward. His next court appearance will be March 21.
