Hoeven's Office To Meet With Spirit Lake Leaders

Posted: Updated:

FORT TOTTEN, N.D. (AP) - Representatives from Sen. John Hoeven's office are meeting with officials from the Spirit Lake Nation this week to discuss the tribe's Social Services.

The Devils Lake Journal reports that Hoeven's office will meet with tribal leaders on Wednesday at the Spirit Lake Casino to discuss issues surrounding child abuse and neglect on the reservation.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs took over control of the tribe's social service programs after criticism that the tribe has failed to protect vulnerable children.

The meeting on Wednesday is scheduled for 10 a.m. The public is invited to attend.
