Casselton Prepares for Multi-Million Dollar Sewer Project

Posted: Updated:

As the sun shines down on the winter filled streets in Casselton, officials are already thinking about summer.

"We are looking to finish a 2-part sewer project and also streets in town will get repaired," says Kevin Mayer, public works director of Casselton. It's a project estimated to cost more than six million dollars and affecting most of the town.

"Downtown areas will not be affected but roughly 6 blocks of sewer will be dug up and replaced," says Mayer.

But not everybody is excited about the project. Business owners are afraid that once the project gets underway, his business will be affected.

"It's going to affect them somewhat but we need to do this for the community."

Mayer says it's a dire need for Casselton to see this project complete.

"Our sewers are so old that a couple years back, we had a complete back up," says Mayer.

Mayer says he knows businesses and people living in town may be upset about the upcoming construction and is ready to answer whatever questions people have.

On Tuesday, a protest meeting was held for people to share their concerns about the project and more will be held in the coming months.

Mayer says for more information on future meetings, just pay attention to your email and local news.
