The recent snow has changed the spring flood outlook for Fargo-Moorhead and the rest of the Red River Valley. The National Weather Service says there's now about a 79-percent chance of what's considered major flooding in Fargo. That is a level of 30-feet and typically doesn't cause too many problems.
Fargo's record flood crest is 40.84 feet on march 28, 2009.
The report says minor flooding can be expected at this point at Hickson, Halstad, Grand Forks, Sabin, Hawley, Dilworth, Hendrum, Crookston, Hallock and Minto. Here's a look at Thursday's numbers:
There is a high risk /60% or greater:
- Major flooding at Wahpeton, Fargo and Abercrombie
- Moderate flooding at Oslo, Drayton and Pembina.
- Minor flooding at Hickson, Halstad, Grand Forks, Sabin, Hawley, Dilworth, Hendrum, Crookston, Hallock and Minto.
There is a fair risk /30% to 60%:
- Major flooding at Pembina
- Moderate flooding at Hickson, Halstad, Grand Forks, Hawley, Dilworth, Hallock, Harwood and Niche
- Minor flooding at Climax, Kindred, West Fargo diversion, Hardwood, Mapleton, Grafton, Wahalla, and Niche
There is a low risk /less than 30%/ for minor flooding or greater:
- Twin Valley, Shelly, High Landing, Morkassel above Warren, Alvarado, Roseau, Valley City, Lisbon, Enderlin, and Hillsboro.
