Prom For All

Posted: Updated:

Prom is a time to get dressed up with friends and to make memories that will last forever. But for some students at Davies High School, a prom fashion show was an experience they may of missed.

The DECA club brought together kids with special needs along with their peers to model this years prom attire. Dresses and tuxes were borrowed from the Bridal Shop, so everyone was looking their best. Students spent the morning getting ready for the show, and they say getting dressed up is a big part of the fun.

A big crowd of proud parents, teachers and peers cheered the kids on as they walked down the run way. Parents say they were happy to have the opportunity to get some pictures of something their kids may not of been able to do.

Tonya Names son Michael modeled in the show, and she says when he came out she teared up. "Oh the emotion was there. You know it's one of those things where being a special needs child he doesn't get to do a lot of the stuff that the regular children get to do, so now that he got to do that, he's going to be talking about this for months." Tonya says.

DECA members say the show was put together to embrace students with disabilities and to bring all students together. Money raised from the event went back to the Special Education Department.
