ND Senate Committee Does Not Support Sales Tax

Posted: Updated:

A North Dakota Senate Committee has now given a do not pass recommendation to a measure aimed at exempting some items from sales taxes.

The full Senate is slated to vote on the measure Friday.

It would exempt clothing and shoes from the state's 5% sales tax.

Local sales taxes also would be exempted.

Tax analysts say the measure would reduce state and local tax revenue by about $49 million over the next two years.

The state House defeated a similar bill earlier this week.
