Safe Driving in Dangerous Conditions

Posted: Updated:

You can thank mother nature for these slippery conditions, causing drivers to use caution. But for some like Deputy Sheriff Scott Steffes, they sometimes don't have that option.

That's why Steffes teaches emergency vehicle operators how to drive in conditions like these. "What's the most common mistake you see with people driving?" "We have a lot of distractions," says Steffes. Deputy Steffes says when it comes to driving on ice, never use cruise control and don't over correct. "Sometimes it's better to go into the ditch," says Steffes. Because driving dangerous in these conditions at speeds of 130 miles and hour could make for disaster.
