Healthier Me: Hospital Infections

Posted: Updated:

In Tuesday's Healthier Me, thousands of lives have been saved since hospitals made an increased effort to prevent common types of infections.

The number of bloodstream infections associated with central lines (a tube that delivers medicine through a vein) is down more than 40% since 2008, and surgical site infections are also down slightly, although catheter-related infections have not changed.

Researchers say the progress is encouraging, but more needs to be done to completely eliminate these infections.
