Valentine's Day Sales Bring Business to Local Economy

Posted: Updated:

With Valentine's Day approaching, many of you are buying up sweets for your sweetie.

One local business is cooking up a creative way to spread the love.

On that day of the year when the flavor of love is on the tip of every one's tongue, Kristina Lau and Andrea Chang have found a way to express it.

They're co-owners of Bakeology, creators of cupcake flavors like maple bacon, banana split and lavender ginger honey.

Every month they'll be teaching kids at "Camp Cupcake" their secrets to success.

"Especially on Valentine's Day people are ordering instead of your traditional box of chocolates, a box of cupcakes so it's like getting a dozen roses but they're edible," Lau said.

Since their business, Bakeology, began less than six months ago, Lau and Chang are now delivering to customers all over the Fargo-Moorhead area. They've added more than 30 flavors to their menu without adding more employees.

"It's gaining a lot of ground," Chang said. "I think with the downtown area being revitalized the way it has been, it has really lent a role in getting people excited to come downtown and see what's here and get excited that it's coming from the area."

So, it's not hard to imagine why this time of the year holds a sweet spot in their kitchen.

The two of them bake all cakes and cupcakes themselves.

The operation is so mall, they don't have a store front and yet, they say they're working around the clock to fill their Valentine's Day orders.
