School and Child Care Closings Leave Few Options for Parents

Posted: Updated:

As the storm worsened today, all Fargo, Moorhead and West Fargo Public Schools canceled classes for tomorrow.

The school cancellations come alongside many child care cancellations. So, for parents heading in to work in the morning, there may be few options to keep kids busy.

Robin Nelson, Fargo Public School Board member, has a son in high school. She says, although the closing may come as an inconvenience for some parents, staying home will be safer.

"My advice is let the kids be kids," Nelson said. "this is a day where you can build some memories and have some fun, so just hang out and relax if you can and enjoy it. It's a day off."

Nelson said she will be enjoying some family time with her son tomorrow.

Her son, Brad, says most of his classmates at Fargo North who live farther out of town won't have much to do, but they wouldn't be able to make it into school anyway.

Some child care providers in town, who are opening up late tomorrow, say even when they can open their doors at all they only see about half of those parents bringing children in.
