In Monday's Healthier Me, tuberculosis (TB) affects over eight million people worldwide, but the current vaccine is only marginally effective, and it's not available in the United States.
Researchers at non-profit group Aeras have been working to develop a effective tuberculosis vaccine regimens and recently completed testing on a new vaccine. According to findings published in The Lancet, the new vaccine performed no better than a placebo at preventing new cases or stopping the progressions of existing infections in infants.
Although the vaccine did not protect babies, experts say it may still be beneficial for adolescents or adults.
