Threat Investigated at Area Schools

Posted: Updated:

Some parents are on edge after their child's school was under investigation about threats made over the weekend. They are concerned that they didn't learn about the incident from the school but from social media.

One West Fargo mother says she was left in the dark when news spread across social media that a threat had been made to students at her daughter's high school. "It makes me worried. We shouldn't find out via social networking."

According to police, over the weekend, threats were made between students at Davies High School and West Fargo High. "We were contacted about inappropriate comments posted on social media and text messages," says Lt. Joel Vettel with the Fargo Police Department. Officials say they contacted both school districts and investigated immediately. "We have determined there's no credible threat," says Lt. Vettel.

Even though the threats were made via text messages and social media outside of the classroom, parents say they need to know when a problem is being investigated at their child's school.

"I was angry at the school." Because to this parent she believes a serious threat like this, "A detective told me, it said WFHS needs to watch out before 2 more students are dead." is something parents need to know about from the school, not the computer. "They should be letting us know."

Authorities say the investigation is still ongoing. "We are really following up to see if there will be any criminal charges associated," says Lt. Vettel.
