MN House Takes Look at Budget Plans

Posted: Updated:

A Minnesota House committee that must ultimately piece together a budget is taking its first detailed look at Gov. Mark Dayton's plan.

The House Ways and Means Committee was devoting its Monday Jan 28th meeting to the budget review.

Last week, Dayton released a nearly $38 billion two-year budget. It is most notable for changes to state taxes, particularly a plan to significantly broaden the reach of the sales tax while cutting the underlying rate.

Democrats who control the House and Senate say the budgets they pass won't necessarily follow Dayton's path. But they have not ruled anything in or out.

The Legislature is expected to pass a final budget sometime in May.
