Car Explodes Inside Man's Garage

Posted: Updated:

A man living in north Fargo says an explosion happened under the hood of his car early Friday afternoon when he went out to warm up his car. Michael Kennedy says he was on his way to grab some coffee and cigarettes when he "heard a bomb or explosion going off."

Assistant Fire Chief Leroy Skarloken says when fire crews arrived heavy black smoke was pouring from the garage, which is connected to three other garages near an apartment building. It happened just before 1:00 P.M.

Kennedy says he tried starting the car again and black smoke and flames started pouring out from under the hood. He ran out of the garage and called 911 right away.

Assistant Chief Skarloken says the car and the garage are both totaled, but a dollar amount is still being tallied. The other connected garages also have some damage.
