UPDATE FROM 1-28-13

A dead man was found late Monday afternoon near Horace, North Dakota, as a search team looked for any sign of Colter Dallman. The Fargo man who went missing nearly a month ago. It has not been confirmed that it was Dallman who was found. As of Monday details are limited, but the body was found less than 100 yards from where the command center for the search was set up. Valley News Live has more from the scene of the investigation.

As of 3pm Monday, authorities were still wrapping up their investigation in the field to the north of Memory Fireworks off of 1-29 and the Horace exit. Authorities told Valley News Live a dead male was found and it wasn't too far from where investigators set up shop for the search party. Sgt Tara Morris of the Cass County Sheriff's office says they picked this location because of the proximity to where Dallman's vehicle was abandoned ,"part of it had to do with that's where the vehicle was found. It was found in this location so we knew it was a good starting point as far as a search and the likely hood he would be in this area. If it is in fact him."

One of the dogs picked up the scent after combing the area for nearly four hours. About two dozen people helped with the search just off of 1-29 and the Horace/Wild Rice exit. Most of their man power was focused on parts of the Wild Rice River, where snowmobiles, four wheelers and law enforcement on foot looked to find any sign of Dallman. Sgt. Morris says after nearly four hours of searching one of the k-9's picked up on a scent, "they had actually covered most of the areas they intended to and this was kinda a last sweep when they came across the body."

Authorities are still waiting on a positive id of the body in the field and authorities say an autopsy in Bismarck is likely to follow.

The North Dakota Highway Department, Cass and Clay County Sheriff's offices, the Fargo P-D, and Valley Water and Rescue all put in the time to help locate the unidentified man today. We'll keep you updated as more information comes in.

ORIGINAL STORY

It's been almost three weeks since Colter Dallman of Fargo was last seen. The 27-year-old was in downtown Fargo on January 3, and then a day later, his car was found abandoned near Horace.

Thursday afternoon local authorities conducted an aerial and limited ground search of the area near where his car was found. The Fargo Police Department, North Dakota Highway Patrol and the Cass County Sheriff's Office all had teams out looking for Dallman by air and on the ground.

For two hours, they searched an area near where Dallman's car was found just over a week ago. They know his phone used a cell tower in the Horace area on January 9. Police say it was likely an incoming call.

On Thursday, the search efforts turned up nothing, and the temperatures along with the wind made it feel like 20 to 25 below zero. Deputy Chief Pat Claus of the Fargo Police Department says search crews had to take frequent breaks on the account of the weather.

"Our biggest concern always is and will be the safety of all people involved in our operation," Claus explains. "Due to the length of the time which the car was seen and towed, and today's date when we did the search, it would be unlikely that if Mr. Dallman was in that area or he would have survived that period of time. This is a recovery operation."

The search will likely continue on Monday after this weather passes. If you have any information that could help locate Dallman, call your local police department.
