Minnesota Sheriffs Propose Reforms to State's Gun Law

A group of Minnesota sheriffs want to make it harder for those suffering from mental illness to obtain guns.

Hennepin County Sheriff and the Carver County Sheriff and others, will hold a news conference today to announce proposed reforms to the state's gun laws.

Among them, the sheriffs want to strengthen background checks for those who want to own guns and let law enforcement have more access to an individual's mental health records.

The group has been endorsed by the Minnesota Sheriffs Association.

The press conference will be held at 1 p.m. January 23, 2012.
