NDSU Dancers Are Repeat National Champs

Posted: Updated:

Members of the Bison football team aren't the only repeat national champs at North Dakota State University...

The Bison dance team returned to Fargo Monday afternoon after capturing the "pom" category at the Universal Dance Association College Nationals. The team competed this weekend at the Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida.

"Dance is something funny, because you don't get to see your competition all throughout the year," dancer Emily Sumpmann told Valley News Live upon her team's return, "like, football teams have stats and stuff like that. Dancers, we don't really have, like, [an] on-going, competition-every-weekend type of situation; [we] maybe have regionals -- you might hear a little bit -- but not every team even does regionals, so you just see..., maybe hear a little word, you know, 'they look weak this year; they look strong this year,' and so you... really just gotta, like, compare yourself to what it was last year."

You can catch the team's performance on ESPN2 sometime this spring.
