4-Year-Old Girl Falls Through Ice, Rescued By Siblings

Posted: Updated:

At 9, 7, and 4 years old, the Harmon siblings are your typical kids. They play patty cake and tell jokes... but on a New Year's Day fishing trip, there was no joke about what took place.

Out on the lake with their dad, grandpa, and cousins, the three explored the ice while the adults were setting up their hole in the ice house. They say in a matter of seconds the fun journey took a turn for the worst.

"Alessia put her foot on the ice and she slipped in," says Julia Harmon.

As Alessia screamed for her life, the two siblings knew they had no time to get the parents.

"I went over to get her out and then Parker ran over and he grabbed my arm and he grabbed both of us out," says Julia Harmon. "She's my sister. You don't want family member to die," says Parker Harmon.

What they say seemed like forever, took about 15 seconds.

"I thought we need to get her out and knew she would drown or die if we didn't," says Harmon.

So how does a 2nd and 3rd grader know what to do when their little sister falls into a deadly situation?

Parker says it was thanks to a Cub Scouts lesson he learned just a few weeks before.

His dad, Mark, is his cub scout leader.  And hopes others can learn an important lesson in all this.

"People take an extra second to talk to their kids." Because since these parents did, all three are here to tell about this courageous story. "We are just so blessed that we have all 3 children."
