Force Complete Sweep Over Tri-City Storm

Posted: Updated:

The Fargo Force grabbed the win over the Tri-City Storm by a score of 4-3 to complete the weekend sweep in front of another sellout crowd at Scheels Arena.

The meeting between these two teams last night proved to be an offensive wager with a combined five goals in the first period. Tonight's meeting was the exact opposite. The contest's first goal wasn't netted until 15:11 into the game when Jared Dedenbach grabbed an unassisted goal and gave the Force a 1-0 lead.

The Force widened their lead 3:25 into the second period with a power play goal by Matt Pohlkamp. Chris Dienes and Gavin Bayrether assisted him on the play. Less then a minute later, Tri-City brought the game within one with a goal by Grant Opperman, who was assisted on the play by Garrett Cecere. Just over a minute later, Jordan Nelson scored with an assist from Kenny Gillespie and Gage Torrel to give the Force a 3-1 lead. With six minutes remaining in the second period, the Storm's Jared Linnell scored a goal with help from Trevor Mingoia to cut the Force's lead to 3-2.

Jordan Nelson tallied points in his seventh straight game with his goal tonight. "Luck is on my side a little bit," Nelson said but gave credit to his teammates saying, "my line mates are playing well and everything is clicking."

Just over half way into the third period Dave Gust dished the puck to line mate Gabe Guertler for the goal to give the Force a 4-2 lead. Tri-City tried to mount a comeback late in the third period when Brian Ward scored with less than two minutes to play with an assist from Michael Vecchione. As time dwindled, the Force proved to be too strong for the Storm's comeback efforts and earned the 4-3 win.

"It was a big weekend for us. Tri-City plays hard and did again tonight, even though we are 7-1 against them, every game is a tough fight," said Head Coach John Marks.

The Fargo Force are on the road next weekend in Omaha and Lincoln and will return back to Scheels Arena February 1-2 for a weekend series against the Omaha Lancers.
