Mother & Toddler Hit by Car, Other Child Pushed out of the Way

Posted: Updated:

A mother walking with her two children through an elementary school parking lot, was hit by a car Wednesday afternoon.  The Crookston Police Department responded to the Washington School parking lot where the woman, Nykisha Mariscal, was found laying on the ground with several people around her.  She was conscious and alert, but complaining of pain.

After investigating, the officers were told the 35-year-old mom was walking through the parking lot from the school. While holding her 1-year-old son, Mariscal was hit, went onto the hood of the car, and then fell to the ground. She was holding hands with her 6-year-old at the time, but was able to push that child out of the way.

The driver of the car, Tina Olson, had just come around the U-turn in the west end of the parking lot when she hit the family. Olson was charged with failure to yield right of way to school children, and inattentive driving.

The mother was taken to Riverview Hospital by Polk County Ambulance, and the two children were brought to the hospital by school staff members.
