Moorhead River Corridor Discussion Escalates

Posted: Updated:

The consistent flooding of the Red River in 2009, 2010, and 2011 left the cities of Fargo and Moorhead buying up homes along the river as we all know.

But what is to be done with those plots of vacant lands? The city of Moorhead is starting to contemplate that very question. Whether they let the land grow out, and retreat to it's original state. Maybe just mow the lots keeping up with appearance. Or build trails and bridges so everyone can utilize the newly acquired plots. It's being put up for discussion for the public to weigh in on.

Wade Kline the executive director of Metro COG says the improvements won't be done over night. They are waiting for more public input to make sure folks have the time to make suggestions, "the additional improvement that I think folks are talking about beyond just maintenance and management of those areas. I think they are going to be low intensive. We're not talking about going in with a big regional park or a shopping center. It's going to likely be just a green way."

Nothing is set in stone just yet. City officials are waiting to hear from you with your ideas. If you have one we've included a link to Metro COG's website where you can tell them exactly what you think should be done with the cities newly acquired land. Just click on the hot button or check out the link below.
