New Warnings on Sleeping Drugs

Posted: Updated:

In tonight's Healthier Me, the FDA has issued a new warning about popular sleep drugs after new studies showed they do not leave your system as quickly as previously thought.

New data from driving simulations and blood tests show that sleep drugs like Ambien, Ambien CR, and ZolpiMist can still be active the morning after use and could impair driving.

Women may be affected more because they metabolize the drug more slowly than men.

Experts are recommending the dose be cut in half for women and that men, too, should consider using a lower dose.

As with any pharmaceutical decision, talk to your doctor first.
