Counterfeit Bills Showing Up In Fergus Falls

Posted: Updated:

Several bills have been popping up in the Valley that are barely worth the paper on which they were illegally printed.

Out in Otter Tail County, a few of businesses have gotten the same fake 20-dollar bills --serial number and all -- over the past few days. It was late last week when a North Fargo home was swarmed by authorities who claim to have recovered materials allegedly used to make several thousand dollars worth of phony money in ones, fives, tens and twenties.

Fergus Falls Police Lieutenant Terry Eldien: "We believe that the bills passed in our community are directly related to the bills that were passed in other towns in Otter Tail County. And [...] we are aware that our bills are connected to the cases that could be investigated in Fargo as well."

Federal agents are on the trail of the Fargo counterfeiting ring, and authorities predict there will likely include more arrests. Only two people -- Terry Bruce Higdem and Nicholas Tom Seeley, both of Fargo -- have been arrested on counterfeiting charges so far.

Because all known illegitimate monies associated with these cases have been small bills, law enforcement recommends that businesses re-familiarize their employees with the tell tale signs of fake cash.
