Prostitution: A Growing Problem in the Valley

Posted: Updated:

According to the Fargo police department, the city is seeing an increase in prostitution. Yet you won't find it on the street corners; prostitution in the Valley has moved online to websites like Backpage and Craigslist.

Lieutenant Vettel of the Fargo Police says the Department is working on a city ordinance to crack down on the growing problem.

"...a city ordinance," Vettel explains, "where you regulate where you can have business. We are being proactive and recognizing the issue."

And prostitution may be bringing more then just illegal sexual acts to the Valley:

"Unfortunately, we do have that," Vettel admits. "Prostitution may seem like a victimless crime, but it brings human trafficking here. Human trafficking is here in North Dakota."
