UPDATE: Three Men Identified in Chase/ Rollover

Posted: Updated:

The Clay County Sheriff's Department has identified three men involved in a Saturday morning chase.  A Clay County Deputy turned on a vehicle that was northbound on Highway 9 about 1:30 A.M.  When the driver saw the Deputy turn on him, he sped up.

The vehicle turned on 140th Avenue North and continued eastbound at high speed. When the road came to a dead end, the driver lost control and rolled.

When the Deputy got to the vehicle, he located one man who was possibly hurt from the accident and with two sets of footprints which left the vehicle in different directions.

Deputies and the Minnesota DNR followed the tracks, searching the area with snowmobiles and ATV's. One set of tracks lead to a road, and police say it looks like the individual was picked up by a vehicle; the other set of tracks went to the north and became difficult to follow because of other tracks in that area.

After several hours of searching, a body was located about two to three miles north of the crash scene. The body was taken to Ramsey County Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

The driver -- the man who was found dead -- is identified as Jordan Louis Oppegard (24) of Mahnomen. The passengers of the vehicle are identified as Clifford Dare Sargent, Jr (23) and Anthony Harrison Engebretson (30), both of Mahnomen.
