Back-To-Back Championship Shirts

Posted: Updated:

"Everyone's coming after the same thing and they probably don't care if it's green or gold, or whatever color it is, if they need a size large they'll take whatever we've got." says Scheels event leader Caryn Olson.

On Saturday the Bison football team defeated Sam Houston State for the second year in a row for the F-C-S Championship title. Valley news live was at Scheels today to see supporters of Bison nation, rushing in for the new championship T-shirts.

Before Scheels even opened a group of Bison fans were already standing outside waiting to get in to load up on championship NDSU gear.

"A back to back championship is a pretty special thing, it very rarely happens, and so certainly the back to back part of the nation championship gear is probably going to be the most important." says Olson.

The store had a crew come in at 9pm and they worked though the night at 5am they left when a second came in to get stocked up and prepared. "You know we had a pretty good feel for how things were going to go last year, and we were kind of just hoping and praying that our plan was going to be in effect this year and sure enough here it is." Olson says.

And as soon as the doors were unlocked the fans started flowing in. "I wanted to get something with back to back on it, which this is what I was looking for, and then I wanted just another one, a shirt just like this that had the championship." says Lisa Brehmer a Bison Fan.

And as fans were coming in to grab their memorable T-shirts, now Scheels phrase 'Bison Nation' has a new meaning. "It was just unbelievable, you know my heart just swelled thinking of all the people that went down there that followed them even us back here, um when they came home and they referenced bison nation, and it was just heartwarming." Brehmer says. Olson adds, "You know to see that too is very very kind of humbling for us."

Bison nation of people, some who traveled 11 hundred miles, some who stayed, and today all of them here to get their T-shirts. "It's kind of there way of being like hey I was there. And experiencing that and maybe every time they put it on they are like oh back to back I remember watching that game, or I remember being at that game, and kind of just remembering that feeling." Olson says.

It's the feeling of another successful year done by the bison who are supported by their herd of fans. And if you didn't have time to go today to get some gear, Scheels says don't worry there is plenty more that will be coming in this week.
