In tonight's Healthier Me, Spanish researchers say they've developed a therapeutic vaccine to temporarily halt the spread of HIV in infected patients.
Scientists at the University of Barcelona tested the vaccine in a randomized, blinded, placebo-controlled trial. A study published in Science Translational Medicine said the vaccine temporarily lowered the level of HIV in the blood of infected volunteers for a number of months but lost its effectiveness over time.
The team reportedly hailed the findings as proof such a vaccine might eventually control HIV replication without antiretroviral drugs.
