ND farmers report smooth operations this winter

Posted: Updated:

North Dakota farmers and ranchers say that so far, their winter operations are running smoothly compared with last winter, despite more snow having already fallen.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture reports that December snowfall varied across North Dakota.

The USDA says cattle producers have been benefiting from areas of the state that got less snow. Some parts of the state have enough snow protection for winter crops such as alfalfa and winter wheat.

KFYR-TV reports (http://bit.ly/RqHWwI ) that the average snow depth in the state was 4.7 inches as of Sunday. Nearly a year ago, the average depth was less than a half-inch.
