Last Minute Shoppers Make it Look Easy

Posted: Updated:

Many of us got the shopping bug early this year. With steals on black Friday and cyber Monday some deals were just too good to miss out on. But for some people, getting out for some last minute holiday shopping is just as much a part of the tradition as tearing down the Christmas tree on the 26th.

Even before shops opened their doors at West Acres Mall Sunday, last minute shoppers were starting to gather. Wayne Mckay who's from Winnipeg was prepared for that, but not quite for the holiday, "there's quite a few people out today it's about what I expected."

Jim Branden of Fargo was one of hundreds at West Acres today, likely in the same boat as many. He says this is actually a jump on holiday shopping for him, "just started my Christmas shopping so I am ahead of schedule."

For some it's just that one last gift, "I still got one gift left for the wife that I have to go grab." Says Mckay.

While others have so much practice doing the last minute shopping game, every year around this time. They can manage to take care of all of it in one speed shopping experience. Branden is in that category, "both my kids, my girlfriend, my buddies, that's about it. Oh my parents I guess."

One report from the National Retail Federation, estimates that nearly 75 percent of Americans have some last minute shopping to do yet. And by the brisk walking and worried looks on men's faces at the mall Sunday, that shouldn't be surprising.

Mckay says leaving a few items on the list, can actually save you some money. "There seems to be a lot more sales right before Christmas. I think they get so much more stock and just before Christmas they're probably overstocked so they want to get rid of it. I believe there's some good deals."

So if you still have some shopping left, know your not alone and don't fret just yet, there's always Monday.

On Monday a survey from the website retailmenot.com found that 55 percent of Americans surveyed still had half of their shopping left to do for the holiday.

West Acres Mall in Fargo is there for you if you're in that group. They'll be open Monday from 8 AM to 4 PM.
