Marshall Bjorklund scored a season-high 20 points to lead North Dakota State to a 69-49 win over Morehead State in college men's basketball Friday, Dec. 21, before a crowd of 2,214 at the Bison Sports Arena.
Bjorklund was 8-for-8 from the floor and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Taylor Braun added 19 points and seven boards, and Lawrence Alexander had 12 points and five assists for the Bison (10-3).
Chad Posthumus led Morehead State (5-7) with 14 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Angelo Warner added 10 points for the Eagles, who did not play leading scorer Milton Chavis.
Morehead State rebounded from an 8-0 deficit to force a 16-16 tie midway through the first half, but Bjorklund scored six straight points and got a steal that led to a fast-break dunk by Alexander to cap an 8-0 Bison run.
NDSU led 34-22 at halftime and went ahead by as many as 16 early in the second half on a three-point play by Braun that capped a 7-0 spurt.
Morehead State responded with nine straight points to cut the deficit to 45-38 with 12:30 left, but NDSU went on a 13-2 run to put the game out of reach.
TrayVonn Wright's dunk at the 2:15 mark was NDSU's only field goal in the final 8 minutes of the game, but the Bison made 9 of 10 free throws down the stretch to keep the Eagles at bay.
NDSU shot 55.8 percent from the field compared to 34.8 percent for Morehead State. The Bison had a 31-22 edge in total rebounds. It was the sixth time in 13 games this year NDSU has held an opponent under 50 points.
North Dakota State returns to Summit League play against South Dakota State next Saturday, Dec. 29. Game time is 7 p.m. at the Bison Sports Arena.
