A new study in the Annals of Internal Medicine looked at the medical records of more than four million patients hospitalized between 1997 and 2010 and found that the average duration for hospital stays decreased 27%.
Re-admission and death rates also dropped.
Experts say better coordination between hospitals and outpatient services is helping patients stay healthy after they leave the hospital.
