U.S. Troops, Patriot Missiles Deployed to Turkey

U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta this morning authorized the deployment of Patriot missiles and 400 American troops to stage in Turkey as violence escalates in nearby Syria. The U.S. is deploying two Patriot batteries to help Turkey have the kind of missile defense that Panetta says it'll need in dealing with threats that come out of Syria. Patriots are capable of shooting down shorter-range ballistic missiles, as well as aircraft.
