Frazee Community Helps Find a Family's Dog

Posted: Updated:

Anyone who has a pet knows they quickly become part of the family. One Frazee family whose dog ran away, got an early Christmas present.  The whole town of Frazee pitched in to show them what the Christmas spirit is all about.

Meet B. J. "He's a daddy's boy, he's a very very loving dog, he's very mellow, he likes to sit there and play tug of war, he likes to play catch but you have to chase him." says Margaret Myers who owns B. J. He's a five year old golden lab, who never ran away from home until a week ago. Margaret says "I mean I got like a hole in my heart."

When Margaret and her husband Joe went out of town for a funeral. "I think he went looking for us, I honestly do." she says. So when the Myers got back they started searching. She continues, "Thursday we went looking, Friday we went looking, and I was just in like tears and I told Joseph and Sherry 'I'm sorry but there's not going to be a Christmas this year, not without him'." And it wasn't just the family who looked. Margaret tells us, "Friends went out all over the place, the police department went above and beyond, I saw them everyday going real slow looking for B. J."

Then one night he was seen at the Morningside Motel. "I tried calling him but he wouldn't come, he was really skittish, and I went down to town later and found a poster for him, so I called the number when I got home." says Shannon Harrison who helps at the Motel.

"And I got all excited, oh my god I found my baby, I went out there and I'm sittn' there, B. J. J-Man come on baby, he looked at me and he came darting for me, and the way he was running I knew it was B. J." Margaret says.

Margaret offered to give a reward but no one would take it. Shannon says, "People leave their animals out here all the time, and usually my family ends up taking care of them, and it was nice to actually have a family actually care about their animal, and want them to come home."

After the efforts from everyone in Frazee."What kind of town does that anymore? that's the Christmas spirit. They made our Christmas by bringing our baby home." Margaret says.

B. J. is now home for the Holidays. Margaret says he will be getting the biggest stocking for Christmas that they can find.
