Georgia college turns game into recruiting pitch

Posted: Updated:

Georgia Southern University officials say they're hoping to return home with more than a victory in Friday's football playoff game against North Dakota State.

They want to win over a North Dakota high school senior.

The Georgia school with than 20,000 students has representatives from 90 countries and 49 states. There are no students from North Dakota.

School officials are taking advantage of the football trip to recruit potential students and promote the balmy conditions of Statesboro, where the high temperature Tuesday was 68 degrees.

Says Georgia Southern spokesman Christian Flathman, "Students are walking around on campus right now in shorts and flip flops as they are taking their final exams."

Flathman says the university has 120 degree programs ranging from business and engineering to liberal arts and health care.
