Junior Morgan Zabel's three-pointer at the buzzer was the game-winner as Minnesota State University Moorhead edged Mary, 63-60, in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's basketball action Saturday night in Bismarck, N.D.

In addition, senior Marisa Yernatich set the new school career three-point record with her first three-pointer of the game. She hit two on the night and now holds the record at 153.

The Dragons improved to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the NSIC, while Mary fell to 5-3 overall and 1-2 in the league.

Several players shined in Saturday's win, which saw the Dragons battle back from a 13-point first-half deficit. Junior Megan Strese had a double-double with 23 points and 15 rebounds, while Zabel had 17 points in 30 minutes off the bench. Senior Kaycee Charette had 10 points and two steals, while junior Haley Thomforde had six assists and six points.

The thrilling finish saw the Dragons trail 60-56 with 2:46 left in the game. With 1:26 left, Zabel hit a layup left to bring the Dragons within 60-58, and after MSUM forced a pair of stops, Strese hit a layup with 38 seconds left to tie the game.

When Mary's Shaunna Knife missed a three-pointer, Zabel took the pass from Yernatich at the top of the key and drained the three as the buzzer sounded to give the Dragons the big road win.

MSUM faced a 37-24 deficit with 1:21 left in the first half, and trailed 42-30 with 16:14 left in the game. However, the Dragons went on a 15-4 run to cut the deficit to one at 45-44. Charette drained a pair of threes during that run while Zabel had five points and Strese four.

From there, the game was close the rest of the way until the Dragons outscored Mary 7-0 over the final two minutes to earn the win.

MSUM makes its 2012-13 NSIC home debut Friday against Minnesota-Duluth for a 6 p.m. tipoff at Alex Nemzek Hall.

Steve d'Eustachio Stat of the Game: Morgan Zabel's buzzer beating game winner tonight to beat the University of Mary, was the Dragons' first walk-off win since Jackie Doerr hit a running one hander to beat Minnesota-Crookston 73-71, on Jan. 26, 2002 in Moorhead.
