Keeping Deliveries Safe During the Holidays

Posted: Updated:

We've had reports from many people who say their boxes have been open and their mail has been slit, but where is it happening?

Is it taking place at the post office, or is it your neighbor next door?

Fargo's Postmaster Greg Johnson doesn't believe the tampering is taking place in the mail room. "You should see the security," he says, and although he admits they have certain automated machines which might sometimes damage a package, Johnson explains that "that's why we do offer insurance."

The US Postal Service (USPS) does have an inspection service where you can file a complaint about tampered mail, and the USPS conducts its own investigations if you suspect the mail carrier is the one to blame. Tampering with mail is a federal crime.

Regardless who damages your product before it comes to you, the best way to make sure you get reimbursed is to get insurance.
